As I mentioned earlier, the Victorians loved a system of classification for everything, even if it wasn’t particularly rooted in science. So, when the Victorians developed an obsession with fortune telling and alternate spiritual realms, (I’ll cover this more in a future post) the highly detailed and classification oriented practice of Astrology became a natural favorite.
In this context the obsession with fortune telling and the zodiac dovetailed nicely with their love of anything that made choosing a present easier.

Pisces (February 19th – March 20th) – The Fish
Aries (March 21st – April 20th) – The Ram
Taurus (April 21 – May 20th) – The Bull
Gemini (May 21st – June 20th) – The Twins
Cancer (June 21-July 20th) – The Crab
Leo (July 21st – August 21st) – The Lion
Virgo (August 22nd – September 22nd) – The Virgin
Libra (September 23rd – October 22nd) – the Scales
Scorpio (October 23rd – November 22nd) – The Scorpion
Sagittarius (November 23rd – December 20th – The Archer
